Quote – Representative Robert L.F. Sikes (D-FL), The Chicago Tribune, “Nixon’s Job Safety Bill Wins in House”.

[The strong Democratic bill will] bring about conditions in the business community which will be chaotic…and could bring about a breakdown between government and those in labor and management with which it deals.

Representative Robert L.F. Sikes (D-FL) speaks in favor of an amendment he crafted with Republican support, which would relegate authority to a five member independent board, outside the labor department, whose decisions could be appealed to a different three man board. The amendment was stripped out during conference committee. From the Chicago Tribune, “Nixon’s Job Safety Bill Wins in House” by William Kling.
